Monika was born in Afghanistan and grew up surrounded by jewelry, culture, and craftsmanship. Her grandfather and father shared a family tradition of selling antique jewelry and traditional Afghan clothing—pieces chosen for their beauty, history, and artistry.
Her father later welcomed customers and travelers through his shop, Afghan Friend, and became known affectionately as Mr. Friend. The name came to represent connection, trust, and the relationships built along the way.
